HOWARD CHUNG
Howard Chung captures the powerful, yet tranquil movement of the ocean waves as they embrace the beauty of Hawaii’s shores.
Howard’s love for Hawaii’s landscapes has allowed him to capture a world of moonlit nights and breathtaking tropical sunrises.
Howard was born on April 8th 1954 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Born of Japanese and Korean ancestry, his interest in art started to develop at age 5. Intrigued with military ships, tanks, and planes he created many detailed pencil drawings. One day in the late 80’s, Howard visited a Waikiki art gallery and found himself staring at a seascape painting. The piece was done by an artist named Roy Tabora. After looking at Tabora’s work, he was inspired to get back into painting once again. In the mid 90’s when he was ready to market his work, He asked to meet with Roy Tabora. Roy agreed to let him sit in on a few painting sessions at his studio. During these meetings, he found that Roy was a very humble, sincere, and confident artist, whom he found a great deal of respect for. "I have painted at shows at Diamond Head Galleries in Waikiki, Oahu, and Lahaina, Maui. Now my works are displayed with collectors and with galleries throughout the United States".
Being a self-taught artist, Howard often comment's that his inspiration for painting seascapes comes from a passion that he has for the subject itself. "In my younger days, I did a lot of camping and surfing on the North Shore of Oahu and surfing at Ala Moana Beach. I never grew tired of watching the waves as it pulled the different patterns of foam into its barrel, break and make its way to shore. There is a sense of peace that overcomes me when I paint". In September of 2007, Howard was contacted by Rick and Lisa Parker, and Todd Powers who own ParkMara Galleries."I feel very fortunate to be working with them. They are sincere, dedicated and hard working business partners"."I feel very blessed and would like to think all the special people who contribute to making it possible for me to continue to pursue my career in painting. I hope you enjoy my work and it inspires those who view it to pursue your dreams as well".
